The original red flock started with 13 chickens and a rooster. Over the course of the years, we hatched 17 eggs from them, with about half being roosters. We processed most of those chickens so that eventually we were down to 4. The predators have been active and by the time we got back from vacation we were down to the one hen named Barnie.
The red flock has always had free reign over the property, and as of late they have stayed in the fenced yard. Hence, the predators (mainly coyotes) are able to get them in the morning if any of the gates are left open.

R.I.P. to the red flock. Barnie is still contributing an egg per day, so keep up the good work and we will try to keep the gates closed against the coyotes.
